GoLloyds is a fast, inexpensive and convenient international service for sending money from Japan to an overseas bank account. The process of sending money between countries is referred to as a 'remittance'. Q2. How much does it cost? The cost for making a remittance overseas in a foreign currency (i.e. not Yen) is ¥2,000 regardless of the amount sent. Account opening and registration is free. As with any international remittance, intermediary banks in the receiving country will deduct a fee. A list of these charges can be viewed here. In addition, beneficiary banks in some countries may also levy a charge. Q3. Yen remittance If you do not want your Yen converted into one of our 11 foreign currencies, then additional charges will apply. As well as our service charge of ¥2,000, overseas remittances in Yen funds are subject to an additional fee of 0.1% of the remittance amount (minimum charge of ¥1,500). The cut off time for same day remittance of Yen funds is 12 noon. If you wish to transfer Yen, please contact GoLloyds before you register and send the funds to us. (Some beneficiary banks do not accept Japanese Yen.) Q4. Can I make a transfer from my local bank ATM? Yes. As long as you can access a bank ATM machine that has the furikomi function (most do) you will be able use the GoLloyds service from even the most remote areas of Japan. You can not use the post office ATM network. Q5. Can I make a remittance using my internet banking? Yes you can as long as you are living in Japan, your account is with a bank in Japan and they allow you to make domestic remittances online. Q6. Can I send money to GoLloyds after 3pm? You can send funds through after 3pm (if your bank allows domestic transfers to be made outside of normal banking hours) however we cannot remit the funds until the next business day and the remittance will be made at the exchange rate on the day the remittance takes place, not the day you sent the funds to us. Q7. My ATM limit is only ¥500k and I need to remit more than that, what can I do? Many banks will allow you to change your ATM domestic transfer limit. You should contact your bank directly to ask them about changing your ATM limit for domestic transfers. Q8. Do I need to visit a Lloyds TSB branch? No. You can complete a registration form online, print it out and post it to us. Remittances can then be made via a bank ATM. However, should you live in the Tokyo area please feel free to drop by our office to register and/or make a transfer between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Our address is; Lloyds TSB Bank plc Akasaka Twin Tower, New Tower 5F 2-11-7 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo 107-0052 Q9. How long does it take to transfer funds? Funds will normally arrive within one to two business days, depending on the country and beneficiary bank. Local banking practices and time zone differences however, may affect delivery times. Q10. What countries can funds be sent to? Funds can be sent in the following currencies: Pounds Sterling (GBP), U.S. Dollar (USD), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Australian Dollar (AUD), New Zealand Dollar (NZD), Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), Swiss Franc (CHF), Swedish Krona (SEK), Singapore Dollar (SGD), Indian Rupee (INR) and the Euro (EUR). If the currency of the country you wish to send to is not listed, we are usually able to send funds to other countries in US Dollar and sometimes in the Euro. Please click here for a list of countries to which we are unable to send funds. Q11. What exchange rate do I receive? Your funds will be converted from Yen to the currency specified on your application form using the TTS (Telegraphic Transfer Sell) exchange rate of the day. These rates are updated daily after 10:00 a.m. and are valid until 3:00 p.m. that day. To check the latest rates or to sign-up for daily rate updates via email please click here. Q12. Can I make online transfers? GoLloyds does not offer an online remittance service, however, we are able to accept transfers (furikomi) made from an online banking account that you may have with a local bank here in Japan. Q13. How long does it take to register? GoLloyds service registration by post takes approximately one week. If you are able to visit our branch an account(s) can be opened immediately provided that you bring in two valid forms of ID (Alien Registration Card, Japanese Drivers License and Passport) and all required information regarding the beneficiary account. Current exchange rates can be viewed by clicking here or via phone or fax back service on 03-3589-7744. Q14. How long can we hold the GoLloyds account? Your GoLloyds account will remain open as long as you continue to use it. Accounts that have not been used for a period of two years will be automatically closed. To re-open the account will require complete re-registration for the service. Q15. Information about the source of funds For anti-money laundering purposes, the Bank may request additional information from you about the source of funds, prior to the funds being sent. Failure to meet this request will result in your account being either deactivated or closed and funds being returned to you. Q16. Are there any restriction on the countries or beneficiaries I can remit to or the purposes I can remit for? Yes there are. We cannot send funds to countries, jurisdictions, individuals and/or organisations against which economic sanctions are in force or to countries and/or beneficiaries to which the bank has deemed it inappropriate to send funds. Inappropriate beneficiaries include, for example, those that are gambling related and unregulated money exchangers. If you are in doubt about whether we would allow funds to be remitted to a particular beneficiary please contact us on 03-3589-7745. Q17. How can I remit to India in the Indian Rupee? You can now remit to India in the Indian Rupee. You need to supply us with some special information including an IFSC code and a SWIFT code. Also, within the GoLloyds Terms and Conditions, the following specific terms apply to Indian rupee remittances.
